The Resonate Student Music Conference is an immersive, high-energy provincial event that transforms the music room into a professional collaborative space. Now in its 11th year, this award-winning program—originally founded by the Prairie Spirit School Division and now a flagship of the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association (SMEA)—is designed to provide inclusive, high-impact music education for students and staff alike.
Event Details & Accessibility
-

Why Teachers Enroll: Professional Growth & Mission Alignment
Resonate is driven by a mission to provide high-impact, inclusive arts education. It is not just a field trip; it is a professional development opportunity where teachers learn side-by-side with their students:
-
Advance Your Capacity: Teachers advance their own instructional skills by participating in diverse sessions led by industry professionals.
-
Turnkey Resources: Educators receive handout lesson plans for sessions, providing immediate, curriculum-aligned strategies to bring back to the classroom.
-
Fall & Spring Strategy: Past events have been held in the fall to provide teaching ideas for the entire year, and in the spring to offer fresh wrap-up activities.
What to Expect: A Look at Past Programming
While this year’s specific lineup of clinicians and sessions is still to be announced, teachers and students can expect an experience similar to previous high-impact years, which have featured:
-
Diverse Musical Streams: Past workshops included Rap, Hip-Hop, and Poetry with artists like Zhe the Free and Anthony Pasqua, alongside sessions in Samba Drumming, Ukulele 101, and Songwriting.
-
Digital Innovation: Exploration of digital music creation and production using platforms like Soundtrap.
-
Social Responsibility & Inclusion: A strong focus on Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) through activities like Reconciliation Soundwalks, as well as sessions exploring the link between music and mental health.
-
Collaborative Creation: Keynote performances (such as the Skyboyz Drumming and Dance group) and sessions on improvisation and composition that require no prior experience.
