The Saskatchewan Junior Honour Band (Fall 2026, Grades 8 & 9) provides a comprehensive music experience tailored for outstanding band students. This initiative is dedicated to enhancing music education throughout the province. In 2026 the Junior Honour Band extends eligibility to students residing north of Davidson, SK.
Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with a guest conductor over three days, engaging in sectionals and full band rehearsals. This offers students a valuable opportunity to network, foster audience appreciation, and receive exceptional instruction from our guest conductor and sectional clinicians. The finale concert will be comprised of the SMEA Junior Honour Band as well as the SMEA Provincial Honour Groups.

Call for Recommendations
Educators are invited to recommend motivated Grade 7 and 8 (in grades 8 and 9 in the fall of 2026) students who are striving for musical excellence. Our goal is to form a balanced, 65-piece ensemble.
*If you have a student who will be in Grade 9 in the fall they would eligible to submit a band audition for the Senior Honour Band. The Junior Band is accepted through teacher recommendations exclusively vs. the Senior band participants are accepted through a blind audition process.
Submission Guidelines
-
Deadline: All recommendations must be submitted by April 15, 2026.
-
Quota: Each band program may recommend up to five (5) students total, with a maximum of one (1) student per instrument.
-
Selection Process: While we aim to include every recommended student, selection depends on space and the need for balanced instrumentation. If certain sections remain unfilled, we will issue a recall for additional participants.
